Canon: Persona 4 Golden; True Ending - Social Link Maxed Friend Route
Location: Fuefuki, Yamanashi, Japan. When things begin going down, she canonly has reason/ability to go to San Diego, trust me.
Original History: Naoto Shirogane on Megami Tensei Wikia
AU History: First of all, the events of all Persona games don't occur the same way. Naoto is still raised by her Grandfather after her parents die and goes through much of the same treatment as she does canonly. Without the events in her Original History though, Naoto is left to deal with her issues around her age and gender on her own. Her personality doesn't make her the most sociable to opening up at school - or schools - when she attends. Always in a male uniform, never a females, people generally left her alone to suffer in silence.
What brings her to playing "The World" is really her Grandfather. Since unsociable in real life, the virtual would give her a chance to interact with people in a more controlled environment and it would keep her busy while she doesn't have work. While wary of picking up the game - remembering past events that seemed linked to it - she decides to give it a go anyway. And she became really good at it. Sure, she didn't join in any events, but she had gained a little fame. She played alone, a male avatar even, and made multiple characters to understand the classes offered.
However, the game had to be set aside when a series of murders began to occur in Fuefuki. Her grandpa, aging, sends her alone to uncover the issue and finally make her last steps towards being a detective worthy of her family. Not that she hadn't had cases alone before, but this would be one mission where she cannot go directly to her grandfather for comfort. Suspicions are cast around, but Naoto sees past it. In fact, she becomes suspicious of the department in Fuefuki, but they have her removed before she can call upon a suspect. Enraged, a group of teenagers taking matters into their own hands - one she had suspected before due to their involvements around town - took her in. As weird as it was being around individuals her age and working together, she lightens up and takes solace in the fact they might be friends.
Along with the group, her suspicions are proven totally right and one of the department's detectives is arrested. Following the aftermath, the student that held them together left Fuefuki and the group came apart. Naoto's perhaps one of the first to leave, scared of the idea of opening up after years of disappointment once people know she's a girl. It was refreshing to be accepted, but in the end, her mind has her conclude that, once more, only a group wanted her for her mind and nothing more.
With no work, Naoto remains in Fuefuki, but decides to log back into "The World".
Appearance: Short in height and short blue hair, Naoto's typically dressed in some form of suit. Whether the black school uniform or her blue detective's uniform, she keeps her signature cabbie hat on and low over her eyes. It further helps keep the male guise since people can't properly distinguish her features. Finally, due to her short stature, she wears wedged shoes to add several inches to her height, but still barely encroaches 5' 2".
Personality: Typically a stoic and cool individual, Naoto is a product of her own ambitions and direct response to society around her. After losing her parents at a young age, Naoto began pursuing a position as a detective to continue her family's legacy. Under the tutelage of her Grandfather, she was enthused for the role, studying famous detectives in various mystery novels and assisting her only family with his own cases. Unfortunately, while hailed as an Ace Detective, she wasn't taken seriously by adults and sacrificing her childhood to succeed her father left her with little to no friends her age. Further and further she withdrew in, trying to act more adult-like to be accepted, but that only isolated her more.
Reality only pressured her more as she grew up. As competent as she continued to prove being, adults began to use any reason to discredit her abilities, her gender becoming the primary target. To rectify this, Naoto trimmed her hair short, deepened her voice, used male pronouns, and bound her chest as her body developed. She also proceeded to further bottle up her emotions, becoming a cold and distant individual with all her conversations becoming calculated, direct, and extremely formal. Despite all her efforts, she retained a stubborn tenacity that made her desire to see cases to full completion almost childish. In the deep recesses of her mind, she soon scorned being born female and this deep-rooted want to be accepted for who she really was would later become her Shadow.
At least, that's in-game. AU-wise, Naoto never faces her Shadow and must cope with reality every time she looks in the mirror. It isn't until Fuefuki and joining the Investigation Team that she feels some form of acceptance and a desire to open up as everyone seems to open up even if just a little. Still, holding back for so long, she was fearful of the repercussions and didn't manage to before the Team fell apart. Regretful of losing her opportunity to be honest and open, she does her best to maintain the cool outward appearance.
Other: Since she left before the events in R:1 and R:2, Naoto took some time to read up on them later. While good the events have resolved, she wants to view her playing again as an investigation too.

Race: Lei Tribe
Class: Steam Gunner
Appearance: Tall, blue ears and long, dark blue hair, her avatar is something Naoto wants to be: a strong female. In fact, the avatar has a surprisingly feminine appearance with a high collared halter top ending beneath her chest. Over that is a sleeveless vest cross-tied together at the neck. Her stomach is exposed as are her arms until the elbows where the rest of her arm is covered by fingerless gloves. The pants are held by a belt with a zigzagging pattern and swirl buckle at the waist. Her shoes are more high-heeled sandals, starting beneath her knee like most Steam Gunner shoes. Finally, she has swirl tattoos on her shoulder, wind wave tattoos on her left and right waist, and eye-lining tattoos around her silver eyes.
Other: Her bangs are stylized much like her real-world hair, the longer portion of the hair is tied back into a pony-tail. There are actually nine braids that look like fox tails even with the white tips, but her actual tail curls much like a Husky's or Shiba's.

It appears as though all my leveling has recently become for naught. I would be equally upset about equipment and item loss as well, but I can't say I had anything important on me at the time.
Since this has been occurring to a number of players recently, I have a question. Did this loss extend to the items stored? Though I've managed to post today, I'm unable to properly log into The World today. I hope responses are favorable; otherwise, I will be cross. Finding that Silent Jade took several dungeon crawls.
Third Person:
The keyboard was typed hard and fast beneath her fingers, Naoto's eyes focused intensely on the screen. It wasn't a matter of writing up a report tonight, but fending off a PK-er. Not for her sake either. Spending a good amount of time in 'The World' again, she had been leveling well. Several dungeon crawls a day, customizing her weapons and checking the status of her armor had Sumeragi set at her current level. This PK-er hadn't been after her either, but the low level player who she was escorting following a BBS message. The problem with the BBS board sometimes however was help wasn't the only thing to answer.
With a click, Sumeragi raised her bayonet to block, pushed back at the impact, but soon, was pushing forward. So much for being a skilled Edge Punisher. She shoved them back and shot through their armor point blank, stepping back as they toppled. A toss of her head, Sumeragi turned as the body became data and returned to her temporary party member.
"Even in self-defense, I don't enjoy killing players." She held a clawed hand out to help the Harvest Cleric stand. "Let's get to the dungeon and find the Gott Statue."
Naoto wished she could be has sociable and helpful outside of the game, but real life wasn't so simple. Still, at least in 'The World', she could help starting players or rare item hunters level in higher fields, even play PK-er Police. Hearing other players gratitude made it worth while. Letting the Harvest Cleric take the lead, Sumeragi followed, keeping an eye on them and also an eye out for more danger.
